April 7th

Well, it took us about 15 minutes to settle into Tippett Home. There is an amazing comfort here – well beyond the physical. The staff is so integrated into the work that is being done and the transitions that are occuring for the residents, families and friends. We are all so grateful to have found this place.

From what we can tell, the transition was not alarming to Jim or the disease. Although we know that there is some sadness there, he knowing better than most what it means to move into Hospice. And as we are all settling down into the new, quieter pace of the Tippett Home, we are also having more time to experience the impact of this tragedy. The hospital was so busy, then the decision of where to move, then the move itself and now… Well, we’re watching closely for the changes in Jim, but also for all the things that are still the same… his infectious smile, his helpfulness, his strenght of character no matter the situation, his LOVE for all of us.

Thank you for staying tuned in and please come visit… we always want for Jim to be with loved ones, but we cannot, ourselves, always be there. It would be good to know if and when you’ll be coming, but as we’ve said before – anytime is good! Last thing – sometimes one of us could use a ride from Beacon Hill or we would plan on carpooling if we knew you’d be able to pick us up, so please let us know if there’s a window for this kind of thing.

love to you all!

    Dear Nancy, Betsy and John,
LOVE the pictures!! They are perfect….Jim’s wonderful flowers…who ever imagined that Jim would love growing sunflowers…and hasn’t he always been just like a big sunflower himself…tall and gorgeous and sunny…just looking at Jim or at a sunflower makes me smile and seeing them both in one picture is great.
I loved seeing you all and seeing how warm and welcoming the Tippett house is and how relaxed you were there. Loved seeing Jim smile and the light of recognition in his eyes. And the way you all are caring for him and each other is beautiful.
Thanks for these updates and the pictures. You and Jim are in my heart and my thoughts all through the day….love, Ellen

    Dear Nancy & Family,

Just want to let you know that you are all in our prayers. We enjoyed seeing you last spring in Florida. It was the first time that I had seen Jim since our days at Holy Cross but nothing much had changed. He was still the the same caring, fun loving and dynamic guy that I first met in 1957. His spirit will continue to be an inspiration to all of us,

    Warm Regards,

    Frank & Suzi Caprise

    Dear Ones,
Jim with a larger than life sun flower …how perfect for a man whose spirit is larger than life , radiant in spite of the disease .

Betsy, bless you for sharing your memories and heart feelings. I smiled through tears reading about Jim making your lunches.

I am coming to Boston on Wednesday. I’ll call Tuesday evening to see what time would be best to visit. All my love, Bonnie
